These are charming styles, beloved by all who see them, the art is self-taught “outsider art,” the latest popular style in fashion art.
This particular design, the Happy Hippo design, was drawn by fashion print designer Mick Snutz on a sheet of 8 1/2″ by 11″ copy paper, at a soiree given by him in the Gunter Hotel in Frostburg, Maryland, ca. 2005.
Mr. Snutz used ball point pen as the medium, which is his typical medium for visionary art of this nature.
The original drawing is in the possession of web designer Jason Duncan, currently of Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Snutz has digitally manipulated the design to create an offshoot, which is a mandala having 4 Happy Hippos in a circle.
